96 Maxima AC cuts out after 5 mins

My AC cuts out after 5 mins. Its cold when its running. If I turn off the AC and back on it runs for 5 mins and cuts out again.
Any help.

If the a/c has ever leaked down then recharging it can do that if the system was not vacuumed down first. Water gets in it to freeze across the metering method there and then it quits cooling. Turn off and the water melts and back to cooling again until it does it again.

Ran it a full year like that did we? Sounds like it was acceptable as it was.
