I was thinking about doing a g35 muffler swap with my 96 maxima gxe. I love the low noninvasive sound it produces. Its 2.25 inlet single in dual out for the 03 and older models so I believe the piping is possible. Do you think I will have any problems with back pressure or anything and will it work well with a warp y pipe? Anything obvious I overlooked?

If I'm not mistaken, the G35 has a big Corvette-style transverse muffler.

I doubt you'll be able to make it work on the Max. The Maxima wasn't designed with space for a transverse muffler in mind. The fuel tank and spare tire depression will be in the way.

Mounting issues aside, as long as the plumbing matches up, it will technically "work." Of course if you can't mount it you won't be going anywhere with it. Keep in mind, though, that just because it has the same muffler doesn't mean it'll sound the same. The G has an entirely different intake and exhaust system and it's engine sounds different to begin with. Even if you could get the G muffler to work on the Max, you wouldn't end up with the same sound. Maybe close, but not the same.

You can probably still get a similar sound to the G from your Maxima, but you'll need to go with an aftermarket setup.

thanks bro. Um... Well what would you suggest then for a muffler that doesnt have the turbulence sound and has enough backpressure to keep me quick off the line?or should I just keep the stock muffler with the test cat and warp y?

If you stay away from a fart can style muffler, you should be fine.

Most of the bees in the can sounds come from little 4 bangers with glass packs that have melted. At least that was my understanding.

I still don't see how you plan on adding the second muffler.

I've wanted dual exhaust on my I30 for years, but when I took a look down there, there was a box in my way. Part of the rear suspension might also be in the way.

Plus, I thought we only had a single exhaust manifold. Doesn't the G have duals that meet at an X pipe then split again?

there is no second muffler for the one I was talking about . Its a left side mounted single in dual out muffler. Its the older style 4 door. The muffler looks the same and is roughly the same size and same piping as the max but its dual out TIPS. Do you think it'll be an upgrade or performance robber?

I can't be sure, but I doubt it will be much of an upgrade. Most factory exhausts are built for noise contol while sacraficing performance. That's one of the reasons why an aftermarket exhaust on a Max can gain you upwards of 15hp. Samething goes for the G. We don't get huge numbers like on the Max/I30s but there is still some gain to be found by going aftermarket.

If it's not too expensive, I'd say try it. Most of the knowledge on these boards has come from some kind of trial and error.

Good luck!
