hey all, i just destroyed my old KA motor, and im gonna drop in a '96 KA24DE with like 38,000 miles. is there anything i need to know about the wiring? is anything different? i knwo that if i get the headers that i gotta delete the AIV from my engine bay, but there is nothing wrong with that. anyway, if there is anything i need to know about this swap, let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

ONLY use the head and block...use your ECU, intake manifold, wiring harness, exhaust manifold, etc...

Makes it VERY simple.

If you use a '95 engine, it wouldnt be so hard...

ECU and wiring harness stays, why should i use the intake and exhaust manifolds from my '93? is there a gain to this? arent the '96 cams also a little more mild than the '93's?

anyway, im not giong to swap this in myself...school = no time. im taking it to a mechanic whose shop is literally right down my street, and he's gonna stab the new motor for pretty cheap. the main reason i was asking was because i didn't know if there were any wiring differences, and i know that the AIV was deleted when the S14 chassis debuted (i believe...at least for the '96..correct me if i'm wrong) the flywheel on the '96 is rusty..what should i do about that? should i let the mechanic take care of that? do i need to get it resurfaced? (not fun) im really just wanting this to be as painless as possible. i already have to get my exhaust welded together (tried to cut the cat with a hacksaw..my custom exhaust was welded and no flanges were made...retarded me.) and get a hole in the tire plugged up. i just want my car to be running ASAP.

thanks a million for all the help. i love these forums.

You are going to spend an as$ load of money trying to match up wires like that with that mechanic. I told you, you should get a '95 engine. The wiring is not that different from the S13's engine.

sorry, KA engines aren't that abundant around here. people blow them and just swap in an SR since there are so many shops in town doing the swap now. i searched and searched and this was the only motor i could find for the price i wanted to pay. too late for a '95 now. i guess ill just pay the money now and learn next time. cept if ther is a next time, im gonna swap an SR and just eat noodles for like the rest of my life..

i guess thats all i needed. we'll just see how it goes.

1) Becuase then all the sensors plug right in, instead of swapping them one by one onto the '96 intake manifold...

The sensors are quite similar between S13 and S14, but the plugs are different on most of them.

So there's no power gain, except it saves time and energy.

2) Yes, you need to swap cams for better power.

out of curiosity, do you have to swap out distributors too?

dunno, i didnt get a new one. im sure you dont, since its the exact same engine...plus or minus a few minor details.

well, we got the engine in. front seal was leaky (what 240sx front seal ISNT leaky) so we replaced it, got a new clutch, and got new gaskets for intake and exhaust manifolds. so now, my car is in tip-top shape again, and it runs like a beauty. only thing i have left to do is put in my old cams...although i might just save up for JWT cams...anyone have any comments on the JWT units?

my dist is the same... i have 95 engine in a 92 fastback. like orion said: everything other than the block and head should stay the same for simplicity. changing the heads for the insignificantly more aggressive cams is a waste of time. my stock 95 engine was faster than any 91-94 engine i have ever incountered... then i put a turbo on it and now it's really fast.

just listen to orion.
