Alright i just broke the crap out of my crankshaft pulley by following the FSM directions and picture. Broke it TWICE, real good, a large piece of the pulley is still connected to my crank. My question is, how are you supposed to remove it?

I took a 3 legged pulley remover and put it on the second pulley section and tightened it up. The first break was on the lip of the second pulley section. After sitting there depressed for a while i did the same thing again, and made sure the feet had a good bite on the pulley. I also let the pulley soak in PB blaster for a while with tension on it. I thought i had it taken off smoothly, however when it came off i realized that the whole back of the pulley was still attached to the crank.

The FSM picture in 'Timing chain removal' shows exactly what i did. I placed the head of the tensioner on the crankshaft bolt, and tightened.

Did i have to remove that bolt or something? Please get back to me im in a pretty foul mood because to me all i did was follow the FSM and i got the shaft.

That bolt that the picture shows as the pressure point for the pulley remover actually needs to come out. I really dont know what else to say i feel like a moron, i knew better too. Shoulda listened to my gut but, well, the fsm is always right?

i'm gonna guess that you were pulling with the bolt in there a good ways and wasn't paying attention to the distance between the bolt and the face of the pulley...

Exactly, i guess the FSM picture hinged on you loosening the bolt first heh. Man i know better than that. Well if thats the worst thing that happens in my ka-t build im pretty lucky, i already got a under-drive aluminum pulley on the way.

ALUMINUM UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS FTMFL ON ANY ENGINE.
