I recently came into possession of a beautiful 1996 J30, and while it's been very well maintained there are a few niggling issues that want sorting out. Chief among them is that the driver's side mirror has a vertical crack from top to bottom just about in the middle, which creates a disturbing "fun house" effect and adds a dangerous blind spot. The rest of the assembly is fine, so I think only the glass needs to be replaced. From passing mentions elsewhere it seems like a pretty straightforward procedure, but I have yet to find a walkthrough with enough detail for my taste. I don't have much background as a mechanic, so I'm reluctant to go messing about and maybe foul something else up without some detailed guidance. I would be most grateful for any help this fine community could provide. I would also appreciate a referral to a quality source for the replacement glass. I've found a lot of sites appear to offer the right part, but it's tough to tell the pros from the charlatans when you're a noob. Thanks in advance.
