According to my mechanic and the front-end vibration, the front struts of my '96 J30 should be replaced. (110K miles) Yes the wheels/tire are balanced.

Will replacing just the front strut cartridges most likely cure the problem? Any way to evaluate the existing strut assembly to see if it is just the cartridges or the whole $$$ front strut assembly?

Thanks for the response.

I'm assuming improperly balanced front tires have been ruled out?

There is no aftermarket for J30 suspension components. Check out infinitipartsusa.com for cheaper then local Infiniti dealer quote on parts.

All four tires balanced. Front end vibration occurs about 59 mph on smooth 6 lane divided tollway.

Discount Tires. I have had excellent service from this DT service center.

Suggestions on the DIY front end inspection?

Could the rear shocks be the cause?

I just rebuilt my entire front suspension (struts, upper strut mounts, springs, tension rod bushings, rack, outer tie rods, stabilizer bar links & lower control arms) & I had the same problem starting at @65 mph. The culprit was the lower ball joints (totally shot) which you have to buy the entire lower control arm @ $190 each. I am at 113,000 miles, 97 J30.
