Hi, I am a nOOB. Looks like a great forum. :)

I am curious about any performance parts I can get for my car. I am having a very hard time finding info on this car. I want to get a new ECU for it, first. What would any of you suggest?

I don't believe there are any chips available for a J30 and there is little in the way of performance parts. The chips that are available are for the 300ZX. The J30 and 300ZX share the same engine however they are configured differently (and the J weighs more) so putting in a 300zx chip into a J can do significant damage to the engine and drivetrain.

Welcome to the board!

So the JET computer upgrade is not going to do anything for me?

I doubt it will do anything(except damage things). I believe it is "vaporware".

Oh, bummer. Is ther ANYTHING I can do to increase performance? I have already put on an intake.

Depending on the type of intake, you could acually be HURTING your performance...

Goto http://www.stillen.com and they have an array of stuff you can get..... Does JWT make an ECU for the J?

Jim Wolf Technologies may have something. I don't remember their URL, run a search on google. The J30 is pretty special car, it basically comes modded from the Nissan factory. The only way to make it go faster is to import a V8 engine (available in the Leopard J Ferie (japanese version of the J30) from Japan. It's a costly proposition. I beleieve you also need to import in a transmission because the existing one isn't compatible. I have only seen one with the JDM mod. the owner didn't even want to think about the money he sank into his J.

I put on a Stillin intake.

JWT does make a ecu for it, but as said above..is it just crap?

Ask them whether the ECU is configured for a 300zx or a J30? Do they guarantee in writing that the ECU if installed properly won't damage your J30 engine?

If you do decide to try the ECU, make sure your coolant is good. The J runs on hot compared to other cars under normal driving.

the Jim Wolf Site is http://www.jimwolftechnology.com

I have the Ecu Upgrade on my car, and I think it works great. It ups timing, moves the rev limiter up a little bit, removes the governor, and so far hasn't caused me any harm.

As for an intake, I have a JWT Pop charger on my car as well, as far as performance goes it's kind of a toss up. But I like it, becuase after 5,000 Rpm, your J will make a real mean growl. Again, I haven't had any engine problems with this on.

You can also get Unorthodox underdrive pulleys (http://www.stillen.com) for you car too. They help a little, but if you plan on putting a large stereo in your car I don't recommend this, the stress on your alternator will kill it.

Stillen headers can be installed but they are a pain in the *** because they don't fit perfectly. Other exhaust work can only be done customly, but the J has dual exhaust and major gains are going to be hard.

I was going to buy a ALC from HKS (http://www.hksusa.com) which monitors line pressure in your trans. I heard it's supposed to help out automatic trannys, but I never considered it. I'm getting a manual conversion this month...

Performance mods are hard to get, the J30s VG30DE is pretty maxed from the factory. Don't expect any cheap mods for big horsepower.

Oh, and this doesn't help much for performance, but stillen (http://www.stillen.com) makes a polished upper plentum that looks really cool. A guy named Willis on this site has that along with a custom dual-exhaust. check it out on car domain.

Hope this helps, welcome aboard!

Yeah, that guy has the most modded out J I've seen. I haven't done the JWT ECU/Pop charger, but I plan to in the spring.

Hey cweberj30t, if your serious about JWT mods, come out to the Chicago suburbs, there's a shop right by my house that specializes in 300Zs and they sell and install JWT parts.

Here is what I have done with the outside, so far. I plan on lowering it in the next month or so.

Which shop? I'll be looking them up come spring time. I figured I'd wait till then seeing as winter is upon us. Till them I'm mounting my Blizzaks and gathering parts till spring time.

I personally would have gone with a chrome rim on a pearl white finish. Looks good though.

Good looking J.

I bet the J would look incredible with wire wheels. Like the old Jag E Types.

Nice looking J. Chrome is expensive and hard to keep looking good, plus you need a spare set for the winter.

Yeah Ultimate Z. The guy is kinda an ******* and he isn't cheap, but he knows what he's doing when it comes to that motor... He's responsible for pretty much all of the mods on my car.

Yeah, I've heard they aren't cheap, but do good work. I might save them for when I have a real bad problem.

you dont need JET definitley, i know of a guy in japan that might be able to do it for you (he does 300zx OBD II's - which are the same as for the J30)

his site is

http://groups.msn.com/ZfromJapan

look for an email address somewhere on there
