All,

I just inherited a 96 Q45 from my dad who bought a 07 G35.

Anyhow, after reworking some brake issues, I am now trying to tackle the TCS/Slip lights that come on every time I start the car.

I start up, the TCS light comes on, and then the Slip light comes on a few minutes later after a "whirring" noise finally stops. Also, when I hit the TCS button on the center console, the TCS light will dim out.

To that end, I have read through the forums and have found a few discussions that might be applicable, but they also discuss the ABS.

If someone could spend a few minutes and walk me through what could be the causating factors in my dilemma and how I can troubleshoot and then fix them so my slip/TCS lights turn off and the systems work (are they working now even with the lights on?) I would really appreciate it.

I have a auto hobby shop on base I can work at with really helpful guys, so I am not affraid to tackle anything, I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks so much!

V/R

Joshua

PS Can anyone recommend a good manual to get or an online download that would really lay the systems out for me?

Have an FSM? No maintenance history, so have you checked the TCS relay?

Welcome to NICO.

You have a great car.

FSM? = I am guessing that means service manual? No, I don't have one. The original is gone.

My step dad is a pretty big car guy and did the standard maintenance, but nothing beyond tires, brakes, oil, etc.

As far a the TCS relay. I can't find it, that is why I want a manual to ensure I am looking at the right piece. I popped the hood and listened for the "buzzing" after I started the car, and the noise is coming from right around the battery. Where the relay is I am not sure, maybe under the fuse box?

A few post made it sound like the relay was back near the firewall, but maybe that was for an older model Q.

I really do like this car, especially since it was cheap to me. As long as it will run I will stick with her, she is comfy and sleek. (A little heavy on the gas consumption though). Now I am just trying to trouble shoot and go through and get things working right. TCS/Slip is my next giant to slay!
