I have a '96 i30 - and got the knock sensor trouble code from the computer (0304). I have a couple questions (besides why its in such an inconvenient place!)... I was planning to first rest the computer and see if the error pops up again. if not, cool. if it does, does that immediately mean that the KS is bad, or could it be just the wiring? I can almost reach the harness clip by reaching under the plenum, but do I need to actually remove it to do the job right?

my car idles just fine and does not feel rough at all.. the only thing I dont like is that when I'm going uphill at a steady 75-80mph the car feels like its lurching a little every other second.

anyways, any thoughts on this would be appreciated.. thanks!

car has 112k miles on it and feels great otherwise!k&n air filter, and everything else stock. :(

Nope - have never overheated. Minus a few issues, It's always run like a champ.

Tomorrow I putting in a new fuel filter and pcv valve (its been about 38k miles since). (on the off chance that this info helps anyone with suggestions).

Could be the wiring harness. I stock it so I know that it has pretty good sales history.

Does the harness cost much?

You can probably check the resistance of the harness and sensor by disconnecting the harness and measuring the entire circuit. Harness location and resistance values should be in the service manual. If you need a new sensor give jtesensky (Joe) a call at 1-888-216-5328. It'll be a lot cheaper than your local dealer. Joe's a godsend to us DIY Infiniti folks. Thanks a lot, Joe!

The harness is $14.16 NICO/Yahoo Club price. Add an extra $4.00 for shipping (ground). Like I said I stock them.

Well - I reset the codes so it was flashing 0505, then turned the key off. I then started and drove the car for a while.. then checked the code again. It said 0304 (KS)... It never triggered the check engine light again... maybe I did something wrong when I reset the codes? either way, the next step I guess is to check the harness and KS circuits?

It won't trigger the Check engine light. I tried for 2 years to mess with my KS on the Q, & I finally bit the bullet & replaced both including putting new plugs on the harness. The car has what seems like another 50hp. I couldn't believe the difference new one made.Cost me a bit, but well worth it.

I have a 98 130 and it too had a knock sensor replaced. I got infiniti to do the job. I have found if the right words are used they may pay for 2/3 of the cost.

The knock sensor is $123.06 ($164.08 List). Plus about $7.00 in ground freight, I have them in stock.
