Alright I read the forum rules and searched every term I could think of and found some good possibilities, but didn't find exactly the symptoms I am trying to diagnose...

A little history here. I received this car for some work I did on a '00 maxima. It was this guys daughters car. She was driving it on the highway one day and it just died and wouldn't start back up. He took it to his "mechanic buddy" and it looks as if the only thing he managed to do is clear the PCM codes. Now this (for me) makes it pretty much a blind search for the problem.

Could you master Nissan/Infinity mechanics/know it alls point me in the direction of some of the most common problems that would directly relate to the problem this car is having?

Let me tell you what I have done. I have tested the idle air control valve. I have checked for fuel past the filter (BTW it shoots really far). I took the MAF off and cleaned it up with MAF cleaner (although several of you said this does nothing I thought it was worth a shot). My next move is to test the coil packs, but I'm not sure where to begin with that.

It acts like it wants to start, but I don't know if it just the compression building up and igniting the fuel or if it is really sparking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to add, I've checked all fuses and relays and they are good....

I posted a similar thread in the Maxima/I30/I35 forum so I'm also interested in the club members' response. Just like you, I did my job before posting - replaced air filter, cleaned MAF and throttle body; replaced fuel filter and teed a gauge downstream of the fuel filter tp verify fuel pump operation (40+ psi at no flow and 35 psi with engine running). BTW, it's not a good idea alowing fuel to shoot out of your car.

Battery, charging system and starter are all Ok. All fuses checked out Ok and cleaned related electrical connectors and applied dielectric grease. Spark plugs are firing and the fuel injectors are cycling. I also cleaned the ground points for the fuel injectors. The CEL did not turn on when I had a failure nor an ECU code generated.

Our difference is that my car is now running. I wiggled the electrical harnesses when the engine is running but I can't duplicate the problem. I'll service the IAC and EGR valves and replace the PCV later. I'll keep this car under observation for a while.
