Set FAN switch (blower) to MAX and then MODE switch accordingly. Air must be blowing to the selected area. If not, you may have a clogged blower inlet/duct or a defective motor/fan.

How much would it cost to repair a clogged blower inlet/duct or defective motor fan?

I was actually looking at a used 1997 Maxima that had the same problem.

When the AC was on, you could hear it running, but no air came out of the front vents at all.

The blower assembly and evaporator are behind the glove compartment. The cost of repairing the problems depends on whether you are going to replace a component or not and who is providing the labor. Shop labor rate is @ $75/hour, more if you take it to a dealer. A fan-motor assembly from IoS. [url=http://www.infinitipartsusa.com]http://www.infinitipartsusa.com is @ $150.

The Fan Control Amp (resistor) also referred as Module ASM by Nissan/Infiniti can also cause blower issues. Depending on the model year, the price could be $57 (27761-2Y000) or $98 (27761-70T03).

Better download a copy of FSM (Factory Service Manual), specifically "HA' chapter (Heating and Airconditioning). This will give you a better idea of system operation, component location and diagnostics.

I am assuming that the costs for fixing the air conditioning units mentioned here are basically the same for a Maxima and Infiniti i30?

thanks a lot for the help! its not clogged or the motor is not bad. i just got the blower motor tested at auto zone, and it was fine. so i thought why not try the relays agian, and when i put in the new one it worked fine and once i shut the car off and turned it back on it wasnt working again...so i'm wondering is this maybe a loos connection on the relay or could it be the resistor?

Please clarify what you meant by "it worked" after replacing the relay. Do you have blower and compressor both working together, giving you cold air? The blower is controlled by the Fan Control Amplifier (aka 'resistor') while the compressor is thru a relay. Did you use an OEM relay? Some of of the replacement relays are of poor quality that they open/short circuit in a short time. Check the basic operation of that relay. Usually, there is a schematic diagram engraved on the relay body. If not, use the FSM. If you can tell me the exact name of relay you replaced, then I can probably give you a pin out (test points).
