Okay, so apparently the MAF for the 96+ Hardbodies is different from the ones on previous years. The part that the local auto parts stores list is not the correct one and Nissan wants over $500 for a replacment. Anyway I could get a part number, or at least a re-manufacturer of this thing? I need to get my truck back on the road, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried any of the local wrecking yards? This is my go to place when I cant find a used part locally.

Looks like they have dozens of used MAF's in A+ condition.

Here is a Reman unit from Rock Auto... A-1 CARDONE Part # 7450052 for $187+ $87 core charge

The one that Rock Auto has is the one for trucks built before 1/96, I need the one for 1/96 and later trucks.

I actually found one on ebay of all places. Hopefully it works....

I had the same problem last fall. Locating a good MAF is a pain in the a** for the 96+ I went though some company that did remans and i went through 4 of them none functioned correctly. I now have an ebay one too and it works enough for me i guess, still running a bit rich and when it is cold outside not all the power is there it seems to stumble a bit before 3000 rpms then its like v-tec kicking in on a honda. I also think i need a new dist or cap/rotor and i ahve an exhaust leak at the stupid flex pipe so once i get all that crap taken care of hopefully the v-tec-ness will go away.

Make sure you get your o2 sensors checked and make sure the MAF wires are all in good shape. My o2's went out and my MAF wireing cluster had a crack in the wires someplace. super fun.

Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas. The truck is running better now, but it has not been 100% fixed. I'm probably going to tear into it again this weekend. There is some off idle hesitation and it is still missing while cruising. I've already gone through most of the ignition system and replaced a bunch of stuff that still looked to be in good shape. I also put in a new fuel filter, it looked like the one in the truck was the original.

The MAF wiring and IACV were going to be the things I was going to take a look at this weekend, I may add the O2s to that list.

were you throwing a code for the MAF sensor?

did you replace the MAF sensor?

what did you change to get the truck running the way it is now?

a good thing to do for your engine is to take a look at the EC section of the service manual, go to basic service procedures and follow it to do a vaccume check along with an FIC adjustment. If you have 100k+ miles on your truck it's probably not a bad idea to adjust your valve lash either. These are all pretty simple procedures and any specialty tools(vaccume gauge, tq wrench, etc.) can usually be rented at your local autoparts place.

I have one built 2/96, it's OBDII (currently parting out the truck for my 95 project). Shoot me $50 shipped and you can have it.

darn! Just wanted an original one to see if some of the odd startup idle issues I have are still MAF related. I think I need to do Cap/rotor and ICV cuz I have a power lag at about 3-4k then it kicks in hard like v-tec lol. Damn this ODB-II crap I wish I would have known it had it before I bought it!

I'll keep my eyes peeled. All the trucks I saw at the JY yesterday were 95 and older.
