I can't see or feel the pivot bolts to remove my 96 G20's alternator (I could only find the Haynes for a Sentra and the pictures don't look like what I see).

Grateful for a detailed FSM page on alternator removal or advice. Thanks.

thanks much for the responses. phatG's manual was about 44MB and i'm dial-up so i couldn't get it.

don't buy the haynes manual for this. its instructions basically say "disconnect electric connections and remove alternator."

we did it though...

1. remove ground wire, disconnect both electric connections (one bolted, the other requiring fat pliers) and loosen belt completely2. knock alternator completely forward to remove belt (then you can see the pivot-bolt, which is bottom left facing the engine3. remove both gravel guards4. remove radiator hoses (be ready for drainage)5. remove radiator (watch for 2 electric connections)6. remove pivot-bolt nut with 17mm (probably have to knock the washer with a hammer & flathead to get it loose)7. slide out pivot bolt8. re-shrinkwrap haynes manual and return to parts store for refund, collect $100 core fee (and buy coolant for refilling radiator)9. reverse for install (and tighen belt to top of bolt thread -- save your hearing).
