So I'm following the FSM for my 96 Q to remove the transmission, and I get the the step that tells me to remove the crankshaft position sensor on the bell housing on the passenger side near the top, right next to where the transmission bolts to the motor. I take out the one 10mm, and the whole thing comes out in a crumbled mess before I even tried to get it out of the bell housing. The local auto parts store tells me there's no listing for a crank sensor, just a cam sensor. No suprise there, so I call Infiniti of Cincinnati, give them the VIN and they also tell me there's no crank sensor used on that car. He thinks it may be the turbine sensor, but its not because that is located where the bell housing bolts to the case, and it plugs in near the back by the driveshaft. The sensor that the manual calls a crank sensor, and that I actually see on the car, plugs in right in front of the transmission pan at a bracket that the cooler line is fastened to also. It looks just like the sensor I can look up for a 97 Q under crank sensor. So what's the story? The 96 manual shows it, and if you look in the engine management section, it even tells you how to diagnose it. And the picture in the engine management section looks like what is on my car, which is WAY different than a cam sensor. The one I am talking about looks like a long abs sensor. And that's how the fsm describes it... a magnet the reads the teeth of the drive plate. So why wouldn't this part show up on the computer at Infiniti when they looked it up with my vin?
