96 240sx wiring?

i picked up a 96 240 couple weeks ago needs couple things like driver side window switch its jus gone, would that cause the gauge cluster lights not work? they had a wire from one side plug to the other tape'd in and i take it out and they will all go out but the left side still doesnt work im confused first nissan but im loving it
