Ok so my check engine has been coming on and off for the past couple of months, I have been ignoring it, but inspection is almost up and I want to get this fixed. It's throwing codes P0440 and P0446. I heard they are related and have something to do with a gas vapor leak? anyway I found this guide http://www.240sxforums.com/forums/nissa ... -help.html (last post) but I dont really know what I'm looking at. All i know is that it's located behind the rear passenger tire. I looked at the manual about it and it confused me, badly. I also found these guides, but don't really know what I'm doing. BTW: My gas cap seals so it's not that.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, "Where should I start and is there a better/easier guide out there or does anyone have knowledge with the problem in fixing it"?

Wtf are those codes? I'm fairly positive that 96s are still OBD1, so you cant do your own diagnostic test. Did someone else test it for you and give those codes?

I don't know if Nico search works yet... but google is your friend. Search 240sx dianostic.

Edit: Here you go. Follow this and then repost your results here. http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/ecm_codes_doch.htm

95 was OBD1. 96 and forward are OBD2.

P0440 and P0446 are evap system codes.

Are you positive your cap seals? That is usually the cause.

Here is the FSM.. it will have all the info you need.

I'm 99% sure the gas cap seals because when I go to unscrew it, it makes a puff of air. Similar to when you open up a snapple except with out the pop lol. Plus the interior of my car smells a tad like gas, so I'm thinking it has something to do with the hoses or valves or something.

do a quick visual check of all evap lines. ANY cracks, replace them. obd 2 checks for very small leaks. .020 of an inch. if your sure all is well, and sure your cap is good, go get your car evap test.
im too lazy to look up what the codes are. if you could post em up, be a better help
