Looking to hear from serious owners/drivers of 96 240sx. I drive it daily. So I'm looking for comfort on the highway while keeping the handling. I'm looking to replace my suspension. Is it better to stick with factory parts.?? Or coilovers.?? What have you done to yours.?? How is that working out.?? Thanks for your time.

i have a 96 that is lowered on Tokico blues and megan springs and it rides pretty rough. it also has Tanabe front and rear sway bars and endlinks. the 15 year old leather on my seats was all old and cracked so i replaced them with some cheap ebay reclining racing seats and they are much more comfortable than my stock ones were. although i haven't sat in an s14 cloth seat. it has a magnaflow muffler that is straight piped from the turbo back to the muffler and it is very loud on the inside. i need to put some sound deadening in the trunk. but other than that i LOVE my KA-T

i have tanabe sustec pro's with them set at a low ride height. the rear end feels pretty "tight" and if your not careful for bumps on the road it can be uncomfortable. handles great with some sacrifice of comfort.

Mine is a 95 so I think it's still relevant. My sig has the date the suspension was changed. KYB AGX and Eibach Prokit.
with the AgX's set at 2front 4 rear, it handles very nice and the ride quality is a bit stiffer than stock. 4 front and 8 rear is not tolerable for me on the streets. That's for track, totally smooth surface use only which my car doesn't see.

Since then, I've hurt my back in a car accident and I can't go over 3 front and 6 rear for 1 hour. For the most part, I leave them at 2 front 3 rear. (because of the back)

Oh yeah ,forgot to mention that on the highway, it handles like it's on rails. It doesn't have the responsiveness of say, an EVO, but it's way way better than stock.
If I were to do it again, I'd do more research into what Coilovers would do for me other than what I have now; based on my driving conditions and area.

yes.. i wish i would have never done it now. the seat is more comfortable. but they sit higher and they arent good quality. i guess i shoulda added that. but the fabric is already starting to get all bunched up and the pass seat has a support bar that poked a big hole in my seat...

A 240sx is not meant to be a comfortable car.

They're light, noisy, and not well insulated. While S14 seats are a big upgrade to S13 seats, as is the car itself, they're really not all that comfortable at all. The least "uncomfortable" thing to do would be to get oem suspension parts and replace things like your bushings with some factory rubber ones.

Well thanks for the reply. Your 240 may be a uncomfortable ride but mine really isn't. I just drove it from across the state and my suspension is pretty bad. Even so, the mountain turn and minor bumps didn't make the drive "crappy". Mine has been stock and well maintained since 1996 and is a comfortable ride.
