I have a 96 240 w/ a 94ish sr blacktop.... I have a noise coming from what apears to be the crank pulley.. I have removed all belts and run car and sound is there(only thing turning).. sounds almost like a loon (bird) .. thought it was water pump noise at first .. $80 and and 1 bottle of aspirin later noise still here ... can this be a loose crank pulley or has anyone heard of a seal on timing/oil cover making this noise ... does it at idle and while driving... does subside slightly around 2k but is there .. sometimes takes 1 to 2 min on cold start to appear... can spray wd40 behind crank pulley and will go away for a few minutes but comes back strong... please help I am either going to buy stock in aspirin or wd40 sprayer system for crank pulley ... .... very fast car but can't go in public to try and race it or cruise ... i sound like i have birds howling under hood ...

pull the crank pulley and see if the keyway is still there and if there is any crap stuck behind the pulley.

93 SE-R's front cover seal will work.

OK we have a winner.... I pulled the crank pulley/harmonic balancer and replaced the timing cover/crankshaft seal used 400 grit sand paper and just touched up the outside of the pully surface that contacts the seal and ZIP ZAM POW no more noise... thanks for the help and suggestions 180fan
