I just got the car about a week ago and my oil light comes on every once in a while. Mostly when the engine is cold. I checked the oil level and that was fine. Any suggestions as to what else could be causing this? There are really no symptoms that I could detect that would suggest anything being wrong with it. Any ideas?

how long does the light stay on? need a little more info.

if it comes on and stays on for a little bit, thats probably normal when the motor is cold. because when the motor is cold, all the oil in the system is in the oil pan. when ur motor starts up, it starts pumping oil through the system. the sensors or gauges pick up the oil pressure eventually. but when they do the light should go off.

That's the thing I'm confused about, when I first start the car, the oil light will stay on for a few minutes then go off. But every once in a while it comes back on even when the engine is warm. Don't know if that's what you were asking as far as more info is concerned...

well then i'd go and check the oil pressure sending unit to make sure its working right. or it could be the gauge itself. just keep an eye out for leaks or blue smoke from the exhaust. u don't want to lose oil in the system or u might lock up ur motor.

Thanks, I'll do that along with an engine flush and oil change. All of it stuff that I should have already done since buying the car.

for the oil light to be turned off by the pressure switch it only takes 2-5 psi. depending on the mileage you could also have a bad oil pump. i would replace the pressure switch and see if the light operation changes. if not, have your oil pressure checked with a gauge.

Well I figured out what was wrong with it.... sadly it's bad news. The f***er I bought it from didn't tell me it had a bad oil pump and I'm guessing he's had that issue for a while. Point is I took it to a shop to have it checked out and lo and behold the engine is ****ed.

That's the bad news. The good news is that I probably won't have to pay a penny thanks to ebay's fraud protection. One of the clauses is for undisclosed engine damage costing more than $1000 to repair. Guessing blown engine would count?

I'd get a brand new motor though Nissan, this is going to turn out great for you as long as you are treated fairly from ebay. A free new motor from Nissan? heck yea!!! Email me at [email protected] if you want to sell the motor in the car now.
