96 240sx auto trans problem?

I am currently looking at a 96 24-sx that has an auto transmission and the car is perfect except for one thing. WHen you put the car into drive it seems to kick at first a little. If you put it in reverse it is fine. Is this a big problem? If so, what can be causin git? ANy help will be greatly appreciated.
