I just recently got a Jim Wolfe Technology pop charger from stillen within the last week. I have a 95Q with 65k miles on it. Before the install of the intake the car idled fine, now when I come to a stop it drops to 250rpms, then works its way back up to 500 and stays there. The car has full power and runs strong, its just when I come to a stop with this new intake. I called stillen and they told me I needed to use a 1.5 inch piece of tape and run long ways to cut down on airintake. I did this and it didn't seem to immedeitely help. Any ideas?? car has perfect transmission fluid, just flushed.

Are there any specific conditions under which this problem occurs? Does it matter if the engine is hot or cold?

It happens after the car is warmed up to operating temperature, it seems when it is cold the increase in idle offsets it and is not affected.

Get rid of the popcharger thingie, your engine is now sucking in 160 degree air and the AAC/MAF won't compensate enough, on top of coating the hot-wire MAF with oil and burning it out.

Tough way to learn... oop$... RUN AWAY!!!

my car did the same thing when i had the popcharger on it, usually happened when it was hot out. it actually stalled a few times when coming to a stop.

at first i just stopped using the popcharger during the summer and switched when the weather got cooler. i also made heat shields for the pop and drilled a 4 inch hole underneath the filter, that seemed to stop the idle weirdness.

It was only on for a week and I actually said screw it already, and put the stock airbbox back on. I just drove around the block and seemed to have the same issue. Do you think it will get better when I actually take it out on the road and drive for a while, or are you saying my MAF is already toast. I guess I will find out over time but just seeing if you know.

Thanks,

Well, check the MAF connector first. Second, read the previous posts including all by Q45tech to find out what works and what is a waste of your time and money.

If you want a cold air intake, you can have it how i have mine setup... Brian youll love this... I just wanted to see what it would do... I took the airbox out and I have the stock air filter bunjee corded onto the top of the airbox... I gotta say it probably doesnt do anything, but it sounds AWESOME!

The q45 already has a cold air intake. and if you cut the front off the inlet behind the grill it turns into a ram air. I dont see why any one would want to anything to this setup besides keeping the air filter new.

Try cleaning your MAF, after checking the "secureness" of the connection.

"it turns into a ram air." As far as I know ram air systems work infinitesimally around 160-180 mph

Pretty hard to beat the natural supercharging of the earth's atmospheric pressure...................at least below 120 mph...............the Q [funnel] already is exposed to the max pressure point............midline of radiator.

Whenever you decide you are smarter than a group of paid factory engineers....................always measure the pressure differential in front of airfilter element at what ever speed you desire................you will see that things that appear to work don't.

At 4,000 rpm WOT the factory system has an almost unmeasurable [with lab test equipment] restriction.
