Ok guys, I have a serious situation. I have a 95 Q w/ 290K well maintained miles (BG44K regularly, fuel pump/filter changed, spark plugs and valve cover gaskets just done, etc. etc.) and I was offered a trade for a 2000 anniversary Q45 w/ 180K miles in great shape from a local Lamborghini mechanic that already has 7 Qs including 2 HIKAS models. Of course I know to have it checked at the dealership and Carfacts for any potential ticking time bombs but I wanted to get your advice on any particulars I should consider with this 2000 car.

Please help b/c I don't want a potential sweet deal to pass me by or make a huge mistake and get rid of a car that I know very well.

If its an even trade then I would hope on that like the last horse out of Dodge.

Yeah, I guess I am looking for other opinions before I make an emotional decision. I have always loved the Qs and when the G50s came out I wanted it but when the Anniversary Edition came out I was blown away at the styling but disappointed at the lack of power.

I suggest you go to a dealer or somewhere else, and take a used 2000 Q45 for a test drive. See what it feels like and if you think you'll be happy with it.

If you decide you like newer style Q45 as well as much as your G50, then have the car offered in trade checked out "head to toe".

Speaking as someone that has owned 3 G50/Q45's and currently doesn't (but wishes he did), I'd say don't do it.

Honestly, if you feel the machanical aspect of the AE is up to snuff I wouldn't wait. I have been looking for a Q since loosing my other one and I have for practical reasons been looking for a Y instead of a G, but I have not eliminated the G all together. I love the look of the G more then the Y, but for financial reasons the Y would make more sense.

A peek at all the fluids and inside the VC cover to assess varnish should help you.

If you are using it as a daily driver, AE is nice once you understand the shocks and add an auxiliary ATF cooler and the yellow maple doesn't get to you..

If just driving occasionally, then a sorted G50 is irreplaceable.

I have access to both (in a way as FGY33 is wife's car but she will trade willingly). I will always have a G50 if possible.

Drive it and see. I would ignore the miles as these cars have changed my dfinition of an "old car", I have a 97 with 243K miles, a 99 with 170K miles and my mom has a 97 with 145K miles and they all drive wonderfully.

I met a guy with 300k on his '97. He didn't maintain it above and beyond the norm, just followed what was required.

With the way the G's seem to be eating injectors and transmissions lately....I'd consider it. If you just want a nice looking sweet driving car the BarbieQs are hard to beat. Of course I have never DRIVEN a 4.5 so that tarnishes and negates my opinion. But, I think those anniversary models are schweeeeet. However I'm not fond of the active suspension due to the insane cost of rehab. As far as the maple....I think it looks great.

Given that the car is owned by a mechanic / enthusiast I'd say that's pretty safe bet that it's been well maintained.

I really do think I should get the 2000 b/c in Georgia it is getting extremely hard to find gas stations that do not use Ethanol and I really try hard to keep my injectors functioning properly. Your right the wood grain is insane on those cars.

At first I liked it, but very shortly the yellow was just too glarey and I found I much preferred the standard fake wood trim that is more subdued. Also, I am not a fan of the Lexsuck affectated half wood/ half leather bi-polar wheel; it should be one or the other.

But ultimately, the real killer of the t and ae models for me was the electronic shocks. Stock seemed plenty firm to me on jounce, so I couldn't determine what the advantage of the adjustable were even if they were at an equal cost to replace.
