As said above I have a 95 240 that up until 2 days ago started fine with no problems. I have an auto, remote start, and a year old battery.

This all started 2 days ago when it rained non stop here, The following day I went out to start it for school and the car started out very weak. The sound was characteristic of an old junky car. I thought this was odd but i had to get to class. The problem and sound persisted throughout the day until late that evening, I accidentally hit the remote start button on my remote. The car tried to start 3 times in succesion with no avail. After this, the car has not starting ever since. When I go to start the car, I do not hear any clicks from the starter at all. I have tested the battery and alternator and all have tested fine as i have replaced both recently. MY QUESTION IS: is my starter completely dead? If so, would it do me better to simply replace the entire assembly or replace faulty parts? Basically, what the hell is wrong with it?!?!

batt good, alt good, no start. ok, no click and not turning over either? no noise whatsoever? do the dash lights dim when you turn to start position? will it jumpstart? if you can reach under the car, whack the starter while someone else turns the key. you will want to stike it will something metal. if that does not work you will need to unplug the little connector on the starter and check for 12v going to starter. then check that the big wire on the starter solenoid has 12v. there is another big wire on the starter solenoid that goes to the starter that should have 12v when the key is turned to start. check all that stuff.

No click, no turning over, and nope no noise. Dash lights do not dim when i turn the key. No, it will not jumpstart.

Yes, haha I did whack the starter with a wrench and yes it did work briefly.

Connections are all good no signs of age at all.

can't check volts because i don't have one of those handy dandy voltmeter deals

I have reason to believe that if it worked briefly by whacking the **** out of the starter, it just may be time to rebuild it.

thanks for your help!~

yeah, if you whack the starter and it works...well, you fixed it. now the question is do you want to fix it like that every time you drive or just fix it once and for all. the second option requires a new/rebuilt starter. personally i would take mine apart and put some brushes and stuff in it. easy and cheap.
