'95 sentra, broken hood release need some help

I have a '95 sentra 2 door coup, when pulled on the hood release handle pulled out, but hood did not open.I tried to open thru the grill openings and couldn't open the hood.I am open for any suggestions, I hate to damage the grill and hood

Did you check to see if maybe the cable came off the handle?

Thanks for the tip, but it is not the cable pull handle assembly it is intact, I believe it is up in the area of the latch mechnism.
