Hey guys, I'm posting for my neighbor so my knowledge of the car's history is limited. Yesterday the car stalled as he put the car into reverse and it hasn't been able to restart since. I checked for spark and fuel and have both. Right now the plugs are actually gas fouled. I believe it has a problem with the ecm, but I dont have a diagnostic tool that will plug into it. I am just curious if anyone has any ideas or could maybe point me in the right direction. He told me that the car did it last week but restarted about 30 min later. All fuses have been checked also and I took a look at the distributor to see how the cap looked but all looks well and the spark seems plenty strong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

if you have gas and spark, the car should run. replace the plugs if you havn't already then give it another go. if the car still wont start see if you can get your hands on another ecu. thats the easiest way to see if your friends has gone bad.Take a quick look to see if the reverse lights are grounded out on anything. Sounds strange that the car would stall just by putting it into reverse...

more than likely it had idle problems or was running way rich is why it stalled. I think that it has a problem with the ecu or related that is causing it to dump too much fuel into it which caused it to foul the plugs and stall. But without some sort of diagnostic equipment Im pretty much in the dark.

hmmmm?!?

I have little to know personal knowledge of s14'sdid it die because he put it in reverse? did he stall it?How is his timing? is the maf dirty? how old is his o2 ensor? Is the spark blue or orange-ish? coil?

alot of things can be "overlooked" by the average car owner. You are going to need a multimeter to trace this stuff but it would be better then getting an ecu, unless the wreck yards there are good for stuff like that.I'm throwing stones at this one,you know its hard to diagnose stuff from so far away. lol

try resetting the ecu too

well thanks for the reply neverlift I appreciate it. my personal knowledge of s14's is probably even less than yours. The car is an auto if I didnt note that but from what Im told it stalled as it went into reverse. I can't really tell much about the timing as I havent seen it run but I know the distributor is turning and the spark is blue/white. the maf looks ok and i cant say for the coil as it is inside the dist on this car but the cap and rotor look ok. as far as a maintenance item like an o2 sensor they have probably been neglected by the looks of the car. i have a multimeter on hand and i have a mitchell disk that may cover a 95. im not sure i have only used it for my 90. i honsetly believe at this point that it is something like old plugs, or it is just dumping too much fuel into the cylinders. im going to check with the salvage yards on an ecu since im not equipped to properly diagnose the ecu and I know my neighbor cant afford to take it to a shop. i was posting mainly to see if anyone had any ideas to run by me. thanks again

Just another quick question for everyone. What type of diagnostic connector does a '95 have ?

I checked the ecm and got a code 76 which was a fuel injection system fault. I removed the pluge and dried them off, checked the fuel pump again, checked the maf and wiring, rechecked the spark again. And after all that i still found nothing. On a last try I unplugger the coolant temp sensor to look ad the plug for corrosion and just out of curiosity I cranked the engine over and it fired right up. It was flooded from cranking so much and not starting but after letting it run a minute it smoother out and ran ok. I am guessing at this point that the sensor is bad so I am going to put in a new one tomorrow and see how it goes.

Installed a new ect sensor today and still runs good. I will post if I find anything else just for future reference.
