I have a 95 nissan that came with the ka twin cam. I got a check engine light back in the day when I first got it and hooked up the scanner and with no issues it read the codes.

Then about 3 months later I go to hook up the scanner and it says can not connect, I even tried 3 other scanners. All say the same.

I recently swapped motors to a sr and it would be nice to see if I have any trouble codes.

And I know there's dispute on the 95 being a hybrid between obd1 and obd2 but mine is for sure obd2

Anyone have any clues what my problem is? I've researched for a few months and haven't found anything

So are you having troubles with the KA or SR?
If it's the SR, did you wire it properly?

Sr isn't even compatible with obd2. You will need to use the obd1 port, and that's if the wiring was done properly to keep the ecu consult compatible.

@asoomal: it started when I still had the ka in the car. I don't know if maybe there's a relay or a ground or something I need to replace?

@compactfean: I don't mean to sound dumb but does my car come with a ob1 consult port?

Btw I'm pretty sure it's not my wiring though because it was a brand new harness for my car and everything. I may just be overlooking something

The car does but depending on who wired your swap may and may have not wired it up for consult. Google consult port and you should be able to find a picture of it.

Awesome thank you. I installed the wirin harness myself and there was no console port attached to the harness or the ecu or anything.
Ill let you know if that helped

So I finally found the obd1 port.

Would I be better off buying the cable that connects to my obd2 scanner that adapts to the obd1 port or should I just not be cheap and buy the correct scan tool?

I have a generic consult cable made by ecutunerguy. Works wonders. I just had to download the software online and buy a usb to db9 adapter for my laptop.

Ok for sure. Hopefully I can find all that stuff for a decent price. I was thinking about buying a cheap little laptop to keep in the car just for that reason. Ill let y'all know how it all works out
