Hi everyone, as the title says I'm swapping a '95 s14 auto transmission into my '93 s13. I bought the car w/ a broke Tran. I did some research into this endeavor prior to purchasing the a/t and the most I could come w/was the driveshaft's "collar"(where it enters the tailshaft of the Tran.) may need trimmed to allow proper engagement. However, I believe this info pertains to the 5spd.manual swap and not mine!

First, both A/T's are the same length and the bell housings are also the same.2.) The S14 trans. input shaft is Longer than the S13's.(see pic.) So, Torque converter's are Not interchangeable, as the internal engagement differ from each models. The S14 Torque converter bolts up to the Dohc's flywheel No problem. This is where I am so far...3.) The Tran. came out at a "twisted" angle due to bell housing shape and clearance issues. Also, the engine had to be jacked up at angle for the Tran. to come out "downward" as this is critical to clear the underbody! Now, as my friends and I tried to install the S14 Tran. the same way the s13 came out we ran into a serious problem. Even with the engine pitched at a downward angle and the Tran. "twisted" for the bell housing to clear the underbody/firewall we couldn't get the input shaft into the Torque converter because of difference in length and underbody clearance. And I mean we tried repeatedly. I even unbolted the main eng. harness from the firewall to get more room to pitch the motor at a higher angle where it meets the firewall! The difference was mm!!Like this sorta: -----converter shaft-----I'm worried that even if we get the Tran. on the damn converter that's bolted to the eng. the input shaft length will be the final determining factor whether this swap will work...I have faith but does anyone have some wisdom???I've thought it out and I believe it should work after all the motor is the same one that's in all '91-'98 240's. So why wouldn't this physically bolt up. The extra shaft length I believe is just a housing on body pain in the *** clearance issue and the difference in Tran.'s is strictly shaft/converter related.BTW, does anyone know what the tube is on top of the tran. is and where does it go?? Thanks.

first you are installing it wrong. you put the torg conv in the trans first then lift the trans into place start the 2 out side bell housing bolts almost all the way in. then reach in through the starter hole and make sure the torq conv spins freely if it does put the 4 torq convertor bolts in that hold it to the flex plate [what your calling a flywheel] only a manual trans has a flywheel. then its just a matter of reassembly.

Be aware though you could of damaged your torq converter trying to stab it that way.

Thank you NISTECH! :ylsuper It went in like butta! One thing, I didn't see until after installation but in the serv. man. it says to align the notches on the converter to the "holes" along the outside of the input shaft. These holes would be the fluid path from tran. to converter. I didn't do this but the damn thing bolted up.Everything is back on the car tran/driveshaft,Exh. ...etc. Well, I started it up and shifted the tran from P, R, N, D, 1, 2.With the brake on I gave a little gas while in each gear.Nothing, absolutely nada. Just like before I started with the Old tran. There is no feeling of the tran. shifting with each shift in the gears. I filled the fluid up before the test, so I don't think that's the problem. I'm not sure... I just bagged it up came home and took a friggen shower. Any Ideas? Thanks.

I don't believe the electronics are identical...

I know they are quite different from '89-90 to '95-96...is this the case with putting an S14 transmission into a '91-93...?

Sounds like it ^^^...

I checked w/ my local Nissan dealer; the inhibitor switch part# changes so I will use the s14's. O, and the tube I crimped and superglued shut is just a breather for the tran...oops! o well just some minor backtracking. Nothin new to a DIY'er like myself!
