My daily beater started to not want to go into reverse when it was hot. When it was cold, it would back up fine. Hot it felt like it just wouldnt drop into gear.

Over the past week or so it got progressively worse, so I decided to change the trans fluid. Probably a bit late. The stuff that came out was pretty brown, a bit nasty, not horrible. Level was fine, not too many chunks of things in the pan or filter.

After the change, it will not go into reverse, hot or cold.

So - anyone had a similar issue. Anyone got a service manual online for a 95 Q45 transmission ?

Will an early trans swap over to the 95. I have seen the gear ratios are different. Are there other differences. I have a couple of 92 - 93 Q45's over at work that have damaged motors.

Oh yeah - its only got 185k miles on it.....ha ha

Ouch. Wrong car to pick as a beater, but 185k is a good long life.

You can use any 90-96 transmission.

Why wrong car as a beater ? It was cheap, 4 doors. Carrys a lot of stuff. Does great burnouts.

The last couple of damaged Q45's I bought - I got them for around $500. This one was running and was still pretty cheap.

Its kinda like a disposable car. If its cheap to fix, I will. If not trash it and get another one.

We just don't like hearing of a Q as a "beater".

185K is not too bad, for a Q. Swap the transmission, and do a little preventative maintenance, and it will last much longer.

I cry at the thought of a $50,000 car being trashed like that...

GT-R's are my toys. The Q is a daily.

The thing is that they are so cheap, they become disposable. If it breaks, its cheaper to buy another one.

As far as it being a $50,000 car. This one was only $2700. Its a lot of car for $2700, but not something I am attached to.

Mr. Morris is no stranger to expensive vehicles with expensive fixes. He's probably quite familiar with the majority of all Skylines currently in the US. A $500 Q isn't a $50k Q, unless you dump a LOT of cash into it, and if it only lasts 2 months, it still fits the monthly cost some of us are used to.

Gah, beat me to it. Hope it's an easy fix, Sean.

My friend, Shawn just bought his second Twin Turbo 300ZX. If I didn't have to work, I would be ging to Georgia with him to pick it up today. I have been seriously thinking of gettin one, to play with. Maybe I'll just borrow one of his for the weekend.
