Hey all,

Just spent the last couple of hours trying to get to the bottom of a situation. Took my 95 Q to the shop to get on a lift to diagnose a front end issue. Long story short, the right tension rod is broken.Image

I'm going to replace both sides, but I can't figure out if I should go with the Z32 pillow-ball rod. I can't seem to find the regular kind. I'm not 100% clear on this, but it seems if I get the pillow-ball, I don't need rubber or urethane bushings, right?

The only tension rods I can find are these kind: Image

So if I get them, do I still buy the OEM rubber bushings? Or the urethane ones from Energy Suspension?

*Edit*

It looks as if I ALREADY have the pillow-ball...So do I just get a new set? Or was there something in there that has now since fallen out? I found a set on eBay for $75.

It looks like those were cheap adjustable tension rods. With the q being alot heavier than the Z32 I would not cheap out on parts unless you need it back on the road as a temporary fix. I would go with SPL z32 tension rods or what I did was get this:

http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_in ... ts_id=5579

This will require aset of non active 94-96 rods, you cant use 90-93 rods because they are a 1/4 inch shorter. Have someone press the old ones out and put these in. This is definetly the strongest and longest lasting solution.

Thanks for the input. I need to get it back on the road. I can't go this route because I don't have stock rods. Can't find them for sale anywhere. Everywhere I look I see the pillow-ball ones like the ones I posted. I bought this Q from a board member and I believe they were Tein rods.

I tried IOS, the part appears to be unavailable on the website...Sent an email, but I was asked to provide my VIN. Since it's not something I have memorized, I was unable to provide it. Though I don't see why it's necessary. If I specify the year and trim, what would my VIN be useful for?

Are the 240sx and 300zx tension rods the same length as the 94-96 Q tension rods?

I believe they are 90-96 Z32 fits the 90-96 Q45. I've seen some aftermarket rods that were 30mm thick instead of 19. I'm waiting to get the OEM ones with new bushings from Wes. Right now, I'm in a rental. 2012 Altima. Not bad. It's not a Q, but it's surprisingly roomy.

As far as I know the G50 can use S14 FTRs, which in that case there are tonnes of high quality replacements.

And YES, they replace the crappy rubber bushing that leaks like crazy with a smooth pillowball mount.

For a recommendation, I have direct experience with these and know the guys who produces them. Can't get any better quality than these!
