okay here is another problem that started a week ago with my steering.

Most of the time when I make a right hand turn the steering all of a sudden as you turn the wheel about midway through a turn it will stop for a split second and then start again...sort of like it looses power steering for a split second and then starts again. This only happens when I make right turns and going both drive and reverse. This never happens turning to the left. I hear no noise or anything else funny...just the steering wheel will all of a sudden stop for a split second while you are turning it and then start steering/turning again.

I had a new steering rack installed by the dealer about 2 months ago....could my new steering rack have a defect in it? I have checked all the fluids and go under the car looking at things, but I did not see anything out the ordinary, but I don't know what to look for either and it is funny how it just does this turning to the right

I don't want to take it to dealer just in case it is some adjustment that I can have a local shop do easily and cheaper

If you take it to a local shop, have them check the belt tension. I assume the fluids and the pump were all up to snuff before the rack was changed? And of course the tie rod end links are also new? Did they check the ball joints and lower A arm bushings?

I am almost sure that all the other things were up to snuff as if they were not I am sure that the dealer would have tried to stick that one to me also....

bump....anybody have any ideas??? I was trying the steering out yesterday and it does not really loose power steering...it actually will not move the wheel any more in that direction unless I stop or back off for a split second and then I can continue to turn the wheel again to the right

also the funny thing that happened when I was sitting in the parking lot spinning my steering wheel back and forth was that I got a "headlamp inop" message on my display and I did not have the headlights on. I check the headlights and all was good and after I shut off the car and started it again the message went away. Is this somehow related?

If there's a chance the part is defective, take it back. 2 months, the part should still be under warranty. They did some work, and it isn't quite right. The headlight thing makes no sense, very unnerving.

I am up for an oil change soon so when I have it at the dealer for the oil change I will ask them to check it out....the headlamp inop message was a little concerning also. I think that the rack is defective given that all seems okay and it only happens every now and then when I turn to the right and it appears to only happen in one spot during the turn of the wheel...right about when the 12 oclock position will be at the 7 oclock position when turning the wheel...does not seem to happen at any other position while turning the wheel. Maybe something wrong with the power assist at that point for some reason?

I was actually planning on taking the car autocrossing this weekend for the first time since 1999, but I can't do it with this steering problem.
