i have a 95 q45. when you come to a stop, 2 seconds later it stalls. it only stalls on hard braking. if you brake really slow it won't stall. i have checked everything and i'm beginning to think its the computer but i want to be sure. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Probably your Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF). It's tempermental on the Q45.

Search this forum for MAF and check out http://www.Q45.org for instructions on checking the connector and cleaning.

Has the fuel pump ever been replaced and was the filter?Do you hear what sounds like a swarm of bees in your trunk?

I have the same problem. but it only happens in cold weather. it also stalls sometimes when im backing up and switch to drive. i talked to someone about this and they had a for explorer who did the same thing. It was the IAC but according to wes those dont fail. i have replaced both my fuel pump and filter recently.

thanks for the info. i cleaned the maf but didn't help. fuel pressure doesn't drop when it stalls either. it only stalls on a hard braking in drive. it won't stall in reverse. i had a lab scope on the injectors, crank sensor, coils, almost every sensor and i can't find a glitch!! i found another site i'll try too, maybe some of you guys can use it too

Cleaning the MAF or its connetor will not remedy the issue. The wires inside the male plug are simply crimped. The crimp fails over time and the wires are loose inside the plug. You must cut it off and install a new plug. Easy to solder the new pins before you push them into the new plug housing. About $20 for the parts from Joe -- always start with the easy stuff! You should give this a try, as even if your connector plug has not failed yet, it will -- ask every one on this board.

Just make sure to plug the connectors in to the right pins.

Just a thought ... I vaguely remember something about the transmission ... torque converter locking up? ... Someone had your stalling problem (maybe Evan?) and it went away after he dropped the transmission pan and cleaned the filter.

Anyone else remember this?

[Edit]Searched and found it:

not to say its not possible, but its much less likely on a 94+ due to the addition of a factory external filter...... We think that problem evan listed was due to the trans cooler being clogged.

external filter on 99% of 94-96 is of no use as it has not ever been changed and is in bypass mode! amazing owners change the way less restrictive pan screen, yet ignore this filter!

I have had 2 Q's that did this. Check your transmission fluid level...it has to be right on, if it is low, it will stall upon hard braking. Strange but true. Make sure you check the fluid level on a flat surface and run through the gears per the manual.
