Dear All:My Q has been acting up lately. here are the symptoms:- when going up hill (even slight incline) it will lose power dramatically and you could hear "clapping"/ "klunking" noise or

- driving on highway, it will start to stumble and lose power dropping at a lower speed no matter how hard you press gas pedal.

If I pull over and shut off the car completely. upon restart, i am able to regain some juice for a short time.

** WHAT HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR TO THE CAR IN ONE WEEK JAN31-FEB5?**- change oil and filter (genuine nissan blue )- change fuel filter- change spark plugs (ngk pfr5g11)- BG Transmission flush service- Ran 2 cans of BG 44K @ $19/CAN- Fill up only with Premium gas from Mobil or Sunoco in Massachusetts

Has anyone ever had such a misbehaving Q? Any posisble prognosis would be appreciated?

thanks1995 Q with 149,901 miles

Could be a few things. Is the fuel pump original? It might be going out. The knocking could be caused partly by a lean air/fuel ratio. How did the plugs look?

- original fuel pump- some spark plugs fouled with oil when they were replaced- Q stumbles all it wants, but never stalls or dies- valve covers leaking oil- while driving back from Boston last night, noticed the symptoms described above are less frequent when engine is hot.- cleaned throttle body with Nissan cleaner

someone mentioned it may be a clogged cat and asked me to look underneath car at night to see if cat(s) is/are red. Pulled over on I-93 last night and looked underneath and cats were fine.

holler back if the faithfuls of this site need more info.

You have to check your pump before the controller goes also. Wonder why your plugs were fouled?

Does your car smoke or consume oil between oil changes? If not my guess is that the rocker cover gaskets are leaking and causing the spark plug ports to fill with a small amount of oil. When you pulled the plugs the oil ran down on the threads making it look like there was oil in the cylinder... a common mistake.

I'd look at the fuel pump and all electrical connections under the hood. Wiggle them at idle and see if anything changes. Any fluctuation in idle points to a connection problem.

I would replace the fuel pump immediately just as preventive maintenence if nothing else... their average life seems to be about 80K so I'm almost sure that it's shot or near it. Check the controller for damage while you're in there...
