95 pickup speedometer and temp gauge

I bought a 95 H/b on Friday. 182k miles. The check engine light came on. Since its memorial day weekend, no shops where open to check the codes for me. So i looked up a DIY way to check it. I placed a paper clip in the obd and waited for the check engine light to flash the code. But instead the light turned off.

I decided to take it down the road to see if it would come back on. It didnt, but my speedometer and temp gauge werent working. After about 15 minutes they started working again. Any ideas whats going on? Instrument cluster?
