XE 4X4, 162,000 Miles. Just found NICO Club. . . This is a new problem. Since driving in heavy rain several days ago, there is water dripping from vent system parts on passenger side. Hard left turn and can hear water in fan. Best way to drain system? What to disassemble and clean to avoid mold or future electrical or other problems? Why now and what to R&R for a proper fix? BTW, because of minor road flooding, I briefly drove through no more than a foot of water. Had A/C on whole time set to recirculate and it's still set that way w/vent closed. Is this issue complicated enough as to best be handeled by a dealer?

locate the rubber hose coming out of the passenger side firewall in the engine compartment. Use a narrow object to slide in the hose to break up any debris in there. That is the evap drain. obviously it is plugged and not draining the water/condensation out of it. That should be all you need. If the debris are heavy you may need to R&R the blower motor and physically reach into the box to remove the debris.

The motot was a mess. I completely disassembled and cleaned everything.

What is the wear limit on brushes? I assume the circuit board assembly is an easy to get part.

As I didn't see much evidence of lubricant on either shaft end, nor in the sleeve bearings, I assume the sleeves are impregnated with some type of lubricant. I also assume the wool felt packing under the sleeve retainers contains lubricant. I took a chance & put several drops of a light synthetic oil (racing bike chain lube) into the felts and sleeves. Comments please.

Wow we dont ever tear down the motors like that we just replace them..lol Your ambitious!I wasn't telling you to tear the motor apart, simply to remove it and reach into the heater box to clear the debris if clearing the drain didnt work.

Now as for the internal parts to the motor, when you refer to the circuit board are you talking about the blower resistor? [flat blade held into the heater box with 2 screws] If so yes that is replaceable. If you are reffering to anything inside the actual blower motor no there are no servicable parts inside where the brush components are. There are also no were limit specs for the brushes either.

Yes, I'm referring to the brush and DC connector board. Shame it's not a replaceable part becuase it's simple to remove. The fact that the power connector is part of the board really makes it seems like a serviceable assembly.

More important question: I've driven through heavy weather and higher water with no problem. I think a sudden flow of water dislodged old debris and clogged the drain suddently. However, I wonder if there's still an issue with the outside-air path. Exactly where does rain water that must normally get into the fresh air duct drain out, instead of getting inside through the fan?

Along the fenders. It has a huge openening between the fender and cowl area for excess water to run off.
