95 Pathfinder - Tach not working right

Hey all, I just bought my first Pathfinder today... a 95 XE model with 269,000 kms on it and it was parked outside in a guy's yard for over a year. Amazing I boosted it with no problems and instantly the battery started to charge and the engine and transmission run great. The main problem is that the tach jumps all over the place and seems to hover around 2000 rpm no matter what the truck is actually revving at. There is nothing special about 2000 rpms though, sometimes it goes all the way to redline and sometimes to 0. I think this might be a loose connection somewhere or a faulty ground. Is this a common problem? Any ideas? Thanks.

my 95 pathfinder does the same thing. it just started to happen to me and i have 182,000 miles on the odometer...i would also like to know more information on that problem you have because i am having a similar problem.
