95 or 96's are virtually the same. Go with the one with the body in perfert condition. Or better yet get a 97 or 98! They are pertier.

there are very small things diff between the 96 and 95. Like personally i like the 96 grill better. And i think the power mirror switch is different. besides that there pretty much the same. I would look into which one has a better body, mileage, is one an se and one a base. Go with an se over base because it will have abs, lsd, 5 lug vs 4 lug. stock 16's vs 15's. Does one have a sunroof, the stock 240 sunroofs are nice. i really wish i had one. Good luckalso, i dont really think this belongs in sr20det section, shoulda been posted in general section, but i see your new.

You should go with a 95 if you are planning an sr20det swap. You will have a MUCH better chance at passing emissions, since 96 and above use OBD testing.

I also believe the crank position sensor is in a different place...I believe it is in the transmission on 95's, but somewhere else on the 96. Or the other way around....just something to keep in mind if you ever swap transmissions or engines.

A 1995 SE does not have LSD or ABS unless it has the HICAS on-board if I'm not mistaken, mine has no LSD or ABS and I have a 95 SE.-James

hicas was only availble on s13's. I have abs and lsd, and no hicas.would be pretty bad *** if they had hicas on s14. Is your se a 5 lug? or 4 lug? does it have the design on cloth interior. If you dont have abs or lsd i dont think its a se. Im pretty sure those both came with the se package. Maybe someone just threw the se badge on to sell for more or something.

I've got a 95 and 96 SE and neither one came with ABS or LSD. Both 5-lug, both 6 speaker stereo, the 96 with leather, moonroof, power everything...well, not since I cut my factory harness for my standalone :( Now I get to re-wire everything. I'm pretty sure they're both actual SE's, but I could be wrong.

if there 5 lug then they are. I doubt a dealership would do a hub upgrade for no reason. I always though lsd and abs were part os se package. I guess i could be wrong, but im also lucky cause my car has both. :)

Bastard....:D I don't really care about the ABS so much, but the LSD would have been nice on at least one of them...I always get screwed.

actually i believe that ABS and LSD are options on SE. my 95 se has an LSD but no ABS, 5-lug, moonroof, 6 speakers, and whatever else the SE package came with but the ABS.

My 96 came with sunroof, power everything, leather and whatnot .. I love it.But I dont think there are diffrences between 95-96, except few tiny body parts (like the grill and such)

Crank position sensor location I think...that's pretty important.

I think everyone asks something "stupid" the first time they start a thread. Deal with it. It's not stupid if you don't know it. Anyway, I'd say find a 97/98 if you can, they are much prettier, but besides that I don't there's enough difference to cause any real problem.

97-98 stock front bumper is uglier. i think 95 96 front bumper looks better, but off coarse the 97-98 has better headlights

I'll take care of that..... Done!

Anyway, I have been told on the 95's you dont' have an o2 sensor after your cat, unfort. for the 96's you do. So if you ever want to take off your cat, you will need to relocate your o2 sensor.

You are mistaken. The SE s14 will have white gauge faces, front and rear spoiler, rear anti-sway bar, and 5-lug 16" alloys.

ALL OTHER OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE ON BOTH THE SE AND BASE MODELS.

VLSD, ABS, power windows, locks.... etc... were available on both. MANY SE's do not have ABS or VLSD. The only things that an SE will absolutely have are the options I listed above.

Ahhh... and herein lies the problem...

As I mentioned previously, the s14 SE has White gauge faces, front/rear spoiler, 5-lug alloys, and rear anti-sway bar. Now, ONLY on the 95 SE model, were ABS and VLSD available together ONLY. You could not order the car with one or the other... they were packaged together or not at all.

So if you have ABS on a 95 SE you also have VLSD. If you don't have ABS than you DON'T have a VLSD. This does NOT hold true for 96, 97, and 98..... those model years the options were available together or separate.

So maine, how many times have you posted this same answer? Did you save it somewhere, so you can just copy and paste?

I have a '96 SE with a '95 headlight grill. The car hasn't been wrecked, either.

5-lug, white face gauges, front/rear spoilers, moonroof, 6 speaker cd stereo, power options.

No leather in mine, however....unfortunately.

Damn.... that's a good idea!

I don't know how many times, but I hate to see people being misled by erroneous info. Maybe I should compile all of the options package details I've gathered and have it posted in the FAQ. But actually, a lot of it can be found in the 240sx.org FAQ. People just need to search there.... not on NICO.

Ok im pretty sure about this, for the 1995 atleast. not sure about other years. But on a 1995 if it is manual you only have 1 02 sensor, and if it is auto then there is 2 in the header. 1 visible in engine and one on top of piping right before cat.
