While my daughter was driving the car would not accelerate even though it had gas. I have searched this forum and it seems the problem is most likely the fuel pump. We changed the plugs, fuel filter, plug wires, distrubutor cap, rotor button, air filter. The car then ran fine for a 10 minute trip. The next morning my daughter started out to town again and it died again. I pulled the line between the fuel filter and engine and had my wife try and start it and it is not getting any gas. Meanwhile, when I was working on it before I noticed a line that I think is a vacuum line coming up from the engine that is not atached to anything and I cannot find where it should go. I am posting a picture of this line. But if my issue is just the fuel pump can anyone tell me how much trouble it is to change that out? If it is the connection of this loose line can you please direct me to some pictures of where it might go to? Thanks,Roger

that vacuum line is the vent for the auto trans and is not supposed to be attached to any thing. to replace the fuel pump remove the back seat cushion and there will be a plate that can be removed to access the fuel pump assm. make sure you replace the fuel pump o-ring also when replacing the pump.

We took the fuel pump off and stuck it in a container of gas and then powered it on and it ran. So we stuck it back on the car and turned on the ignition to make sure there was power getting to it, and we could hear it turn on. So the pump works. But it is not getting fuel up past the fuel filter at the fire wall under the hood(which is a brand new filter). Auto zone told me that it was still probably the pump not getting enough pressure. But I was wondering if there is another in line filter or something else that may be blocking the fuel. I really hate to pay out over 200 for a new pump if the old one works, but auto zone charges 35 for the pressure gauge. Does anyone have any idea what we might check before spending all that money?

Is it possible that the fuel pump works but does not put out enough presure to squirt the fuel properly through the injectors? Don't know enough to answer that question. sorry I can't help. did you try to blow out the lines with air presure?

what did the sock on the fuel pump intake look like? inside of your gas tank?

buy the gauge. your just guessing without data.

measure the pumphead off the vehicle and then again after fuel filter.not to insult, but the fuel filter IS directional--any chance it's backward?seasoned owners use OEM vs. fram junk.
