New here, had my 240 for quite a while, about 5 years. Progress was quite slow for the longest time... truth is I've got 4 others vying for my attention. This one is still a bit slow on progress, but I'm beginning to make some kind of progress with it. This forum seems to be the most in-the-works build thread friendly, (which is funny some other 240SX threads define their build threads that way, we all know what was once a build will always be a build) although still not a separate thread like most other forums I'm part of, but no 2 are the same, so no bad blood or anything over that. Without further adieu...

Image

That's what I had to start with... and this...

Image

A smarter person than myself would have disposed of this by now, but that wasn't it. I also had this:

Image

That is sparkly orange paint all over the interior... I now had reason to believe the car's previous owner was a werewolf. He had a beard, and looked like he had maybe seen sunlight before, definitely not a vampire. Anyway, in order to fix this problem, I removed those pieces from the car, and replaced them with this:

Image

That's about as far as I've gotten on the interior with the exception of my sleepy eyes harness, which is made of pink wire, and the rest of that sound deadening is gone. I like the minimalist look. Obviously the dash frame will be going back in to help brace the body of the car, I just have to find a nice dash and display to put back in it... and perhaps a seat of some sorts.

I've got the motor ready to pull, but due to being active duty in the Navy, I still haven't gotten around to it. It wasn't of much use to begin with. Here's my trunk when I first bought the car:

Image

Whenever I get a chance to go home, it seems like I always end up working on something I drove home, and never any of my projects. Hopefully I've fixed that this year. Here's the most recent pic I have of that process.

Image

I might get around to pulling the motor later on this month. I'll get a newer pic later if I do. I do have plans for here as well. I just need to get a couple other motors installed before I get ahold of this one... that's what I need to do, but no guarantee that's what'll happen, because I thoroughly enjoy working on too many projects at once. You may see the motor I have in mind sooner.

One of the earlier mods I also made to the car that may be of some inspiration to you are my all red tail lights. I used a mixture of a darker red from a Mercury and clear coat, and shot a couple of light coats to the bottom of the lights just until the amber was no longer visible. These are no longer in the plans, as I've got other-than-240sx aero planned for the car now.

Image

I plan on swapping areo to unbroken OE 180SX Type X parts. (Now maybe you understand why my builds move slowly?) I have pretty much everything type X rounded up now, except for the wing. That thing is hideous. I said it. :chuckle: There will be carbon fiber as well. I'll get pics of all the new aero I've rounded up when I go home. This will have to do for now, as it's the only thing I'd bought previous to the last year.

Image

I'm not much for drifting the car will be made to stick, just like my others. I know I've eluded to a lot of mods I'm not talking much about. Why, you ask? Is this some sort of super-top-secret build? (That's not the highest level of classification either, that's *edited for content*) My response... nope. Talk is cheap.

Just a quick preview of some of my other builds:

That is going into this:

Image

This is already pretty much right where I want it. It will get an N/A motor build in the future though if I can help it. It's got a mild cam in it for now.

And my daily.

Image

That's still got these in it.

Nice work your cars are all very nice. I usually dislike neons but the green one isn't bad, nice and simple, and miatas are fun from what i hear. Thank you for saving that 240 from dying in that shape. You said you're pulling the motor are you rebuilding or putting a different one in? Do you have rust holes under the foam spoiler on your hatch? I had some and they bothered the crap out of me. Keep us posted on the build man, definitely heading in the right direction. Hope you find some time for it.

Thanks man.The black Neon's not even close to being done looks-wise, I think I have a pretty sweet plan in mind for it. I'll be topping it off with a new coat of paint, some reverse R/T stripes and even more carbon fiber. The carbon fiber widebody front end isn't on the car in that pic either. Should be real nice for being a race car. The NYG's dying for paint. The clear coat's peeling on it. I was starting to get Eibach to send me a some free things after they got pics of it. The rice is slowly beginning to die out in the Neon community now though. We've got more and more good builds popping up on the forums now. Hard to think the '95s are getting classic plates in 2 years. The Miata's been a great autocrosser, an awesome daily, and I enjoyed having Mazdaspeed's backing on that car before I got assigned to my submarine and never had any spare time since. The Celica is so much fun and so unique up here in the northeast though. That one's got a build getting rolling now too. After the black Neon is done I'll probably be working on the Celica and the 240 at a much faster rate at the same time after it's done. I don't want to clutter a 240 build thread with Neons, Celicas, and Miatas though, so those can be found here if you want to see more:

FWDU (I need to update my lists on what's been done and what's left to get, but I don't have my hard drive on me right now):

Miata:

Celica:

Generally I try to keep my threads for all the cars seperate, I'll introduce them and then send you elsewhere if you want more info to keep things simple. Shoot me a PM if you've got questions or want to know more about them. I'm sure the mods will let me know if they'd like it to be done a different way.

Back to the 240... I'm definitely putting something new in. Like I said though, talk is cheap, so I don't go around bragging on what I want for it until I get it, just in case my plan falls through, then I become the guy who settled for... less in my eyes. Nothing wrong with the KA, I've got a tractor motor in my Celica, I just want something else. You'll just have to subscribe and watch it unfold. None of my plans have fell through yet. It just takes a while to build these cars like I want. I have no problem taking these cars off the road for years at a time to prevent breaking things and changing the plan. It's the easiest and cheapest way I've found to do things.

I didn't notice any rust holes under the spoiler yet, and if there is, not a big deal. It's not staying either.

Hopefully I find a little time here and there to work on these cars in the meantime, but I get out of the Navy in just a couple weeks over 2 years now (758 days to be exact). I've already got a little business rolling selling 242 companies aftermarket performance car parts via the internet, so I plan on becoming a sponsor for all my frequent forums once I'm ready to really launch the business, and going home and working with my dad in the garage where we'll be covering pretty much every aspect of working on cars to keep the shop full all the time. Time to work on the cars then should be a lot easier to find. I want to use them as demo cars. "If I can make a Neon this fast, imagine what I can do with your car!" :dblthumb:

I didn't get a chance to take pics of all the new parts like I wanted, but I did stop working on the FWDU Neon long enough to get the tail lights in this car. My lower trim panel I ordered from the Phillipines was the same as the one for the 240SX, and not a day later I found a place to get a new one from, so now I've got that on the way along with the parts to repair the radiator support. I do have a before and after shot of the tail lights for you.

There is rust under the spoiler. Bad enough to see it in the pic. I can't imagine the car sitting in my backyard waiting patiently for attention all this time has helped it at all.

Good luck on your build man! I wouldn't mind having an S13 to build up on the side.. Not until my S14's engine is completely swapped though.
