I have a 95 Nissan Maxima SE, with approx. 216K miles. I have been having stalling/shut-off problems, when I am a stop light and/or a hill.It feels like it's choking, or not enough fuel being pushed.I also have a sound underneath, like I have a hole in the muffler. After the second start, the car runs smooth. I had a mechanic perform tune-up, change the EGR Valve, Knock Sensor, etc. He used a pressure gauge on the EGR, and duplicated the sound. Now he suggests, the Catalytic Converter.Any suggestions, need car for work, no situation for new car. Thanks in advance from GA.

I don't see how the catalytic converter could cause the car to stall...

Make sure fuel is getting to the cylinders and plugs are getting spark, then go from there.

Just gusessing, sounds like the Mass Airflow Sensor

My 95 acted the same way when it needed one.

Do you have a check engine light? downloading any codes sounds like a good start.

Having the same problems with mine. My check engine light is on and I've had stalling problems recently....know for a fact that it's my Idle Air Control Valve. Also, muffler is making weird noises....one of supports that hold the muffler to the car completely rusted off and my muffler is just rattling against the floorboard. Shouldn't be a difficult fix, just haven't done so yet. Something worth checking into.
