i was driving today and heard popping coming from my intake does anyone have a idea of what would cause that?

Have you done any mod on the engine (NOS, etc)? An intake backfire is due to very lean fuel-air mixture (as opposed to exhaust backfire due to very rich mixture). When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? Check for leaks at the intake. Also have an OBD II scan to see if there is any trouble code.

it turned out to be a dead spark plug

Then what you've had was an exhaust backfire due to raw fuel from the dead cylinder igniting at the exhaust pipe.
