hey gang,i thought i had this problem fixed, but it is back. i have a 95" maxima v6 automatic w/ 131k miles. it doesn't want to start when it has sat out in the hot sun for several hours. i put in a new starter and starter solenoid, cleaned the battery cables, and put in a new battery and none of these things worked. i purchased a universal relay from napa to replace the starter relay, however, there is no female connection for the center prong. this starting problem has nothing to do with engine temp. it is only when it has sat out in the sun, not running, for long periods of time. i am at a total loss. any help or suggestions as to what to do next would be greatly appreciate.

Is this a manual trans car or automatic and when u say won't start do you mean it acts like a starter and won't say anything?

it is an automatic trans car. i should have said that it won't even turn over. it is just dead, although the radio and dash lights do work. no click, no turning over, nothing.

Check for fuel delivery and pressure.

Its cheap to change the fuel filter

Old cars used to get "vapor lock" on their fuel pumps

Yeah that's where i would start if the car actually cranked. But in THIS case where nothing is cranking that wouldn't do anything but waste some time.

I would start with checking your neutral safety switch and ignition. Because it's sitting in the sun related and not engine related it's probably a problem with something electrical in the cabin being a little to worn out and a little to warm from baking in the sun.

This may also sound like the delay start problem that some people posted back when sitting in the hot weather. They suggested taking a look at the ignition switch and/or putting piece of foil between the steering column and where the ig switch mounts....anyway, you may want to check around there also. My car has a delay start after sitting in the sun about 2-3 seconds.
