My girlfriends cruise control doesn't work and her brake light is on (not abs light). Any ideas where I should start?

the brake light might be on because of a bad switch which is located on the right rear side of the brake handle. idk about the cruise

I bet the cruise won't work if the parking brake on signal is detected. I would check the brake fluid level and the parking brake switch.

Steve, thats what I was thinking as well. I'll try to fix the brake light first and go from there.

The parking brake does not affect the cruise. I have my tv hooked up to the parking brake, and can pull it up one click and still be able to set the cruise. I adjusted the cable to have a little slack that way the brake does not engage.

On the cruise, the first thing I would check is that the cruise switch on the left side of the dash is working. If it doesn't light up when you press the button, that is the start of the problem. Next check the plugs in the cruise actuator to make sure they are plugged in. After that get a service manual start metering parts and start replacing.

For the brake light, first make sure there is enough fluid in the master cylinder resevor, after that make sure the switch under the center console is moving. if not, spray a little WD-40 and you are good.

Well I got the cruise working now. It ended up being the ASCD cancel switch next to the stop light switch.
