HELLO EVERYONE! I NEED SOME HELP OR ADVICE WITH MY 95 NISSAN MAXIMA. I PURCHASED THIS EXTREMELY CLEAN CAR BUT IT HAS 236,000 MILES. I KNOW I KNOW ALOT OF MILES. I HAVE A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS I WOULD LIKE TO GET OPINIONS FOR AND THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1) THE CAR EVERY NOW AND THEN WILL SHUT OFF WHEN IDLING LIKE AT RED LIGHT. ABOUT ONCE EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE. IT WILL CRANK RIGHT UP BUT MAY HAVE TO GIVE A LITTLE EXTRA GAS PEDAL. SOMETIMESIT WILL BLOW WHITE SMOKE OUT WHEN IT CRANKS BACK UP. ALSO IT WILL HAVE A MISS OR JUMP WHEN CRUISING DOWN HIGHWAY NOT OFTEN ABOUT ONCE EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE. I HAVE CHANGED AIR FILTER, FUEL FILTER, AND POURED HEET WATER DISSOLVER IN TANK. I ALSO HAVE CLEANED THE IAC VALVE.

2) NOW THE SCARY ONE FOR ME. I DECIDED TO SEA FOAM THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE. WELL WHILE LETTING THE VACUUM SUCK IT IN, I COULDNT GET THE VACUUM HOSE OUT OF CAN QUICK ENOUGH AND IT SUCKED ALMOST ALL OF THE CAN THROUGH THE VACUUM HOSE. WELL OF COURSE IT DID SMOKE LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN AND NOW I STILL HAVE LIGHT WHITE SMOKE OUT EXHAUST EVEN WHEN WARMED UP, LIGHT MOST OF THE TIME. WHEN I REV THE RPMS UP IM NOW GETTING WHAT I CALL BLACKISH SPIT OUT TAIL PIPE. ONLY AT HIGH RPMS. IT DOESNT SMELL LIKE ANTIFREEZE AND ITS NOT REAL OILY. MORE LIKE A LIQUID SMUT. MY COOLANT AND OIL LEVELS ARE STAYING FINE.

ANY AND ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!

Welcome to NICO.

Your stalling issue may be caused by the idle air control valve. You can remove it and clean it, or you can replace it.

I would drive the car more and see if the smoke clears up. The crap coming out the tail pipe is probably carbon that is coming out of the engine.

Everything the squirrel said :p

Try cleaning the IACV. Once you remove it, you can take it apart and clean it. There will be a gold cap inside of it (will probably be completely black from carbon build up)

That will show you how dirty it is

Also, some seafoam may do you some good

Have you tried to see if you have any codes yet? i would definitely do all the basics, (you may have covered some) oil change, air filter, clean MAF, Throttle Body, IACV, fuel filter, check the strainer on your fuel pump(could be clogged if your tank has s*** in it), and check to see if it's running in limp mode. If the knock sensor code is in, it'll run like crap, but won't give you a code...at least on a 96 I30 it won't. Listen to Tiger, he's pretty good at this stuff.
