If you are not highly skilled, I would not attempt to replace just the rubberboot. Also you will probably need an assistant to help replace each shaft. Read the directions in the FSM and Chiltons (Chiltons is pretty good). You will need to use a torque wrench to put it on and to re-assemble part of your brakes.
I had success with Auto Zone CV axles (rebuilt), but in the forum somebodyused a company called Raxles to get their CV axles and claimed they werenew, not rebuilt (I dont know about Raxle quality).
I feel two new shafts should probably be installed but I am sure many have installed just one with no problems. I would guess one one rubberboot wears out the other is going to follow.
Pay particular attention to the re-installation process when the shaft goesback into the transmission. There should be a pin/clip on the end of the shaft and you should be able to feel it properly seating in the shaft hole. Also be sure there are NEW transmission seals for these new shafts. You might want to use a seal puller rather than a screwdriver to get theseout.
I remember I paid $100 for the LABOR on each shaft .
I like to maintain my CV boots by cleaning them with rubbing alchohol putting some Armor All on them about 2-3 times per year to keep the rubber clean and flexible.
Good Luck!
