Sounds to me like she jumped time slightly.

I dont think i can be much help here as I have only done this with Hondas, but i made marks on my cam gears to the TDC marks that were already there on the head, then matched up the marks on the Flywheel and bumped the starter till she hit TDC. (Simplified Instructions from a Haynes Manual)

Hopefully someone will chime in that has experience with this motor.

You might need a professional bring her back to TDC. Timing is a very finicky thing to mess with.

Make sure you put the distributor back in correctly. Align the match marks on the gear and shaft per FSM before you stick it in the hole. After it sticks in the rotor will rotate a bit due to the helical gear mating. After the distributor is in flush check the rotor positioning and make sure it is proper (also make sure engine is in TDC at this point).

i've done this several times its just tricky to get the cams and everything lined up correctly double check the cam gears and everything and like the guy above said for the distributor timing... if you are 100% positive your mechanical timing is correct you can carefully take out the distributor and move it over 1 tooth at a time
