I have been spraying the EGR passages in the intake manifold with water/carb cleaner/all sorts of stuff for several weeks now and it is still dirty in there. Something tells me I'm mining for coal and the deposits are quite plentiful. At this point I just want to get a brush in there and I tried to remove the blind plugs to do so. Unfortuately the plugs are in TIGHT. So far I haven't been able to get them to budge, although I didn't apply TOO much torque in fear of breaking the manifold. Is it possible to remove them by unscrewing them? I know some cars have plugs that can only be drilled out, but given that the ones on mine have a giant hex socket on them I assumed they could be screwed out.

I already read your tutorial, but that was not what I was asking about. There are plugs in the intake manifold that block off the drilled passages made during production (6 in all). I just need to know if these can be removed by unscrewing them, or if there is another procedure required to remove them properly.

You can remove the plugs using a long allen head. They are usually in there pretty tight. I use a long 3/8's ratchet with an allen socket. Then just make sure the ports clear.
