Hi all i recently blew my '91Ka24de engine and swapped a '95 into it, but i rebuilt the '95 from top to bottom all new rings, bearings, and gaskets. my question is now not even 3miles on the new motor it was lacking so much power i think i could have almost run faster then the d@mn car !!! then she started to over heat, pulled over and let her cool down, then bam she wouldn't restart took her to the local nissan dealership and they said my motor was shot !!!!!!!! WTF to da extreme !!!!! now she just knocks like a SOB, my question is:

1. Was the rotaing assembly balanced for the auto and fried itself when i backed it with the 5spd ?

2.Could it (the engine)be salvaged ? are there any local machine shops between tampa fl and sarasota (i live in sarasota) that specialize in nissan engines ? and has anyone dealt with them to attest to the quality of the work they do ? i have put almost $2k into this engine and would hate to see it become a boat anchor,

Thanks guys( and gals)

-Mike

I had the same thing happen check your thermostat, damn thing causing my transmission to over heat cook something inside and would allow it to go into gear... I had the Valve body pulled and the transmission filter was all full of little brass shrapnel the head luckily was not warped... now I'm shopping for the more expensive of the two.

also has anyone turned the crank on there 240 giving it a little stroke ? can it even be off-set ground to give it some stroke ? I know that crower cams is going to be releasing a stroker kit soon, i just didn't know if you ccould piece one together from other nissan parts, and how much if any can the block/head be decked, and the block over bored ?

no, they are not balanced differently. people swap from auto to manuel all the time and there are no issue as far as that goes. ive never had a problem even swapping from manuel to auto.

Its very very possible the car didnt have any power when you drove it becasue it was off a tooth on the distributor, its and easy mistake that causes that problem.

the motor overheated because they put a bonedry motor in and filled it with coolant without burping it for air bubbles. KAs get bad air bubbles. You almost guaranteed had a big bubble, or several. it can take several burps and sometimes half hour intervals ot get all the air out with a burp funnel.

is it knocking like you spun a bearing? or is it jsut a nasty timing chain knock. Cant you turn the crank around with a ratchet reasonably?

don't know yet shes up at the nissan store still, the tech just told me she had rod knock, he said the whole engine rocked side to side severly when starting it up, and was just knocking really bad, he drove it into the bay and back out, but he said that he didn't know how long it would last before the motor was completly fried. I will be picking it up saturday and bringing her home to asses the damage,
