if swaping the lsd unit into your open diff involves also using the ring gear from the j30, i dont think it will work becuase the 240 rear diff ratio is about 4.083 or something, and the j30 rear diff ratio is a 3.9xx, with the different ratios, they are different diameters, and if you put in the j30 ring gear into the 240 r200 diff, the j30 ring gear might not mesh with the pinion gear all the way and you could cause excessive premature wear or noise and could break or shatter. To swap the internals of these to differentals, both pumpkins have to be out of the car, so why mess with changing the internals, when you can just switch the whole pumpkin? the j30 diff's imput shaft is 3\4 (.75) inches longer then your diff. This extra play is normally absorbed by the slip joint on the output shaft of the transmission. (i know many people that have done this and no problems). If you can try and find a lift to do this on, its a ***** on the ground and you will want to kill your self trying to put the halfshalfts in place layin on your back. you will look like this if you do it on the ground > and you will feel like this if you find a lift. .............. maybe i misread your post but i think it said that you have a j30 car and yes it has vlsd (all of them do). and you want to put the vlsd into the 240? i know the diff from the j30 will fit in the 240 but when you go to put the open into the 240 it may not fit because of the shorter imput shaft on the diff, and the drive shaft simply might be too short.

http://www.ka24development.com , click on the tech install there and scroll down to the vlsd install, if you have read this, you know damn near everything to do this no prob.

okay man thx....ill just bring the shafts and the pumpkin to my skool and use one of the lifts to drop out and swap em...i have to get the pumpkin off the j30 on the ground though cuz it dont run but i cant get the damn driveshaft--diff bolts off, you know the four bolts that connect em....should i just cut em off and try not to damage anything???cant fit an impact wrench down there and cant use and open ended or box ended w/ pry bar..im already lookin like

i recently had to inspect my whole rear end because i heard a driveline related mechanical grinding noise, turns out to be the torque converter

i was able to get at the half shaft bolts with an extension and an air ratchet from the lower control arm area, and used a box wrench to hold the other side...... you need to find a friend and a pry bar to put in the universal joint when trying to take off the driveshaft. dont cut off the driveshaft bolts, spray em with some wd40 or pb blaster first, and get someone to hold the drive shaft with a pry bar then use a second wrench to make the first on on the nut longer, or get some kind of cheater bar..... if that dosent work try some swift wacks of the hammer, i had one stubbor bolt on my driveshaft and i had to result to the hammer. so im guessing you dont have the tri flange 2 bolt patturn on the j30?

my J30 diff wore my rear main seal on my trans out. the extra 3/4 of a inch some times pushes the drive shaft further into the trans wearing out the rear main seal.

very interesting, what did you do get a abs 240 driveshaft or have it professionaly shortened? the j30 lsd installs that friends of mine have done are about 7 months old so maybe its just a matter of time before the rear seal goes on their transmissions also

Mine went sooner than that. Drifting tends to shove it further up there in the trans. I think my rear tail shaft housing is screwed up from bering to much metal on metal. That middle holder doesn't do crap that holds the carrier bearing up. People that say the driveshaft soakes it up are usually proven wrong over time. the extra 3/4 get pushed inside the trans and chews up the seal. Thats why I'm going back to a regular diff with a kazz installed. I have had this happen on 2 transmissions so far. I replaced the seal and that lasted all of 2 days till that one was chewed up. I'm also on stock motor and trans mount.

very interesting........i was insearch of a j30 vlsd for my car

someone recently wanted to trade me a kazz 2way for my momo racing seat that i dont fit in (6'3", knees are in steering coloum) i wasnt very fond of the idea, but i drove my friends vlsd s13 yesterday and i really dont care about the noise at lower tight corners any more i want something that locks. ima see if i can get the 2way and bug my uncle so i can use his lift.

I'm 6'2" and I just ordered a sparco pro2000, it hard finding a seat rail combo. I'm getting rid of my J30 soon and I think a new trans from a friend because my tailshaft housing is screwed bad. I'm going with a tomei 2way very soon.

Did you swap the rear covers. If its going into a S13 you need to swap rear covers.

the 91 fsm has the R200 diff carrier capacity listed as 1.8 liters or 3 7/8 pts. but easiest way is to keep squirtin it in there until it starts to come out the refill hole. then its fulll.
