The first step is to:

Remove the instrument cluster, clean contacts and see if it works.

Does it work sometimes or is it completely inoperative?

Did it fluctuate before becoming inoperative?

What is your electrical diagnostic skill level and equipment situation like?

It may be an easy fix but it's a pretty simple circuit two wires from the ECM that send the signal to the Tach.

i have a 93 j30t and i have no tach at all. it my freinds car he told me it was a new cluster and when he put it in it didn't work what i do to toubleshoot?

93-94 clusters are different from 95-96. they changed something dealing with the tach.
