Any idea how to replace O2 sensors and clean out MAF? I have a 95 J30 that has smooth idle but has lethargic acceleration. Mileage has also dropped recently from 21-22 mpg to 17-18 mpg. Again, idle is smooth but i feel slight misses in the engine when accelerating. Car has 207k with original O2 sensors.

It might be time to replace O2 sensors but if you're feeling a miss, that's not the O2 sensor, that is more than likely a plug/coil type problem.

When was the last time the plugs were changed?

Based on an experience with a dirty MAF in my '97 Ford F-150, cleaning your's is a good idea. There are links out there to do-it yourself MAF cleaning instructions.

In my case a dirty one caused intermittent and very subtle missing/stumbles near the shift points under light acceleration, plus some intermittent and pretty violent jerking at freeway speeds in the 65 to 75 mph range. At first the problem occurred very infrequently and was barely noticeable, before it slowly got progressively worse.

It took about four trips to a local Ford dealership within a two week period to fix the problem, and even then the service rep flat-out lied about the real fix, after they first replaced the O2 sensor, and then the plugs, and then the plug wires, and after which I stopped paying for their guess work.

Dirty fuel or air filter, or low fuel pressure?

A smooth idle is a good sign, and obviously an engine doesn't need as much air/fuel at idle.

Thanks for alll the replies. Plugs have about 20k miles on them. I will look around for do it yourself links for cleaning out MAF and O2 sensors. Could someone paste the link if possible? My symptoms are pretty similar.

I couldn't locate the links when i looked here last time. Thanks again.

It's a Nissan at least and those for all makes are very similar.
